The Arts just keep getting better in Lee County. Mary New, member of the Sanford Area Photography Club and Ashely Inman, student at Lee County High School, won the adult and youth 2017 North Carolina Agricultural Fairs Best of Show competition. This event highlights the best Arts and Crafts entries from local Agricultural Fairs across the state. Representing Lee Regional Fair, their entries competed against 9 other Fairs with attendance of 15,001 – 40,000 fairgoers. All entries were on display at the 2017 N.C. State Fair in Raleigh. Selected as grand prize winners, Mary and Ashely will receive $600 each in State Fair premiums.

Ashley’s entry, “Horse Country”, is a painting inspired by a friend’s photograph. By mixing 5 basic oil paint colors, she was able to achieve a realistic perspective.  Mary’s photography of a man taking refuge from the rain in a London, England cathedral’s portico, challenged the judges to look closely…was it a painting or a photograph? The Sanford Lion’s Club, sponsors of the Lee Regional Fair, was also recognized for their support of the 2017 North Carolina Agricultural Fairs Best of Show competition.
